meet the
boys behind it
The story of Clark Lane Distillery begins with four friends with a passion for socialising and poor jokes. One evening they discussed their favourite gins. As the night grew darker and the conversation got deeper, an idea was born to use their knowledge of New Zealand native ferns and botanicals to produce a small batch, hand-crafted gin.
Unlike most other distilleries, their gin would be produced on site from pure New Zealand spring water and locally grown ingredients, blended with care and put through rigorous testing to ensure perfection.
The first batch was trialled in a top secret laboratory (Duncan’s Farm shed) and tasting was undertaken while the gin was still hot from the still. The lads looked at each other and smiled – They had the basis of something magical. Piko Gin had formed.
Twelve months on, they had perfected their gin by sticking to the principal of a small batch fresh product. Piko gin now features in high end hospitality outlets around New Zealand.
Where it all started
Why the name “Clark Lane”? This is the street that the journey started on and it became a fitting name for the brand. It is the birthplace of Piko Gin, and the original location of where the fine spring water and botanicals are sourced.
MISTY MOUNT PIRONGIA
This extinct stratovolcano stands proudly behind Clark Lane, and the rural community of Te Awamutu and the city of Hamilton.
Its highest peak rises to 959 metres and is tallest in the Waikato region. Pirongia’s many peaks are basaltic cones created by successive volcanic eruptions. Its sides are rich in native flora and fauna, and water run-off creates crystal clear water that flows into the plains below. This is where Clark Lane Distillery sources the purest spring water and botanicals for their products.
